Nottingham High School has been established since 1513 as an independent fee paying day school for boys. As of 2015 the Governing body of the school decided to make one very big change – the school turned co-educational and for the first time, in more than 500 years, welcomed girls through its door at the beginning of the new term. In order to reflect the recent co-ed changes, the school needed to change their signage and called upon local signs and graphics company; Signs Express (Nottingham).

The recent co-ed change for Nottingham High School has been in discussion since early 2012 and great consideration has been taken to make this dramatic transformation. The school firmly believes that the welcoming of girls will have many positive effects on all of its students and the move has been made purely to improve the schools standards and expand its reach in education.

As this was Nottingham High School's sole decision, made to improve the school and not in order to benefit finances, the sensible step of tiered introduction has been implemented, meaning that girls will gradually be accepted from between now and 2016, with the school hoping to fill its maximum quota of 1,180 pupils by 2020.

Nottingham High School first formed a relationship with Signs Express (Nottingham) back in 2011, when they put an exterior signage project out to tender. They were so impressed with the enthusiasm and proposals submitted by the Signs Express (Nottingham) team they, over the years, became their first point of call for all their signs and graphics requirements.

It was therefore only natural that Signs Express (Nottingham) also completed the re-branding of the school's signage to reflect its new co-education status. Whilst the schools name will not change, it was a key factor to highlight the intake of girls and the alteration to becoming co-ed.

Signs Express (Nottingham) put together a quote for the external signage project back in Autumn of last year and presented visuals along with a solution for the school to be able to simply change some of the signs using a panatrim frame and tray signs, allowing for one off events to be promoted with the signs not being out-of-date. These systems look much more professional than conventional banners and are easy to maintain, also creating less wastage.

In May 2015 they were given the go-ahead to proceed with the project and as with any large exterior signage development, planning issues were also a consideration and Signs Express (Nottingham) offered advice and support with these too. The work was undertaken during the summer vacation, ready for the start of the new term in September.

Amy Chambers, Head of Marketing and Admissions at Nottingham High School, commented; 'We've been really impressed with the new signage that has been installed at Nottingham High School by Signs Express, the quality of both their products and their service has been fantastic'.
