2013 has seen the city of Derry being awarded the status as one of the top 10 cities in the World to visit this year. As a small city with only 83,700 in population, Derry fought off some key contenders to secure 'destination number four' in the Lonely Planet's travel bible of places of interest to visit in 2013. The auspicious accolade comes just months after Derry successfully won the bid to become the UK's City of Culture 2013 and assures a year-long programme of internationally recognised events to boost tourism in the area.
